Before MTV there were Soundies, a collection of musical shorts starring such legends as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Nat King Cole, Cab Calloway, Doris Day, and more. Soundies is a PBS pledge driver; seen in all major PBS markets, and listed as a favorite among national programmers, station managers, and viewers. Now available for the first time on DVD, these meticulously restored and digitized classics are hosted by fan favorite Michael Feinstein and contain interviews with the artists themselves, as well as with pop culture icons Wynton Marsalis, Hugh Hefner, and Leonard Maltin. First produced in the 40s to play on a video jukebox called a Panoram, Soundies pays tribute to the music that started it all.
